Santa Fe de Bogota' or simply Bogota,' Colombia's capital, is situated in the central part of the country in the oriental highlands, at an altitude of 2,740 meters above sea level, with a population of approx 11.5 million (2023).  Linguists say that the "Bogotano," or the Spanish spoken in Bogota', is the most refined, articulate, and true to its original of Medieval Spain.

Colombia holds a special place in my heart. Perhaps one of the most peculiar reasons is that the Spanish language spoken there and my local dialect spoken in Verona, Italy, are very similar. When I started to fly to Bogota' from the US at the end of the 90', speaking my dialect with the locals felt surprising and exhilarating, like being among friends again. Add the very pronounced Catholic heritage, and it was like being home, just on another continent. That elating feeling remains every time I get there. :)
