We were fortunate to find, in Bogota, at the end of the 1990s, some wonderful people in the emerald trade who helped us through many years of purchasing. Friends and mentors. Professionals, and always impeccable. I have purchased anywhere in Bogota, on the streets, and in offices. Always squared. I have been traveling anywhere around Bogota, from Melgar to the north, to La Catedral del Sal & Zipaquirá, to the west, to Lake Gachala, and all its surroundings.
Buying Jyotish-quality Colombian emeralds is a challenging task. But I have always found what I was looking for. There are numerous qualities in Colombian emeralds that require a very experienced dealer. And with the innumerable qualities come the innumerable prices. Simply put, Colombian emeralds are considered the best. The classic color of Colombian emeralds is a vibrant "traffic light green" hue.
More often than not, you will see the same emerald changing hands during the day. This rough one ended up with Rosa.
The Avenida Jimenez crossing the 7th Street is where the emerald district is located. It is an open air market surrounded by buildings with offices. The Iglesia de San Francisco is pictured on the corner. A jewel for art lovers and devotees. And across the street, El Museo Del Oro.
