What is a Jyotish quality gemstone?
Gemstones are classified based on color, clarity, cut and carat weight, the 4Cs.
Color is the most valued attribute for a colored stone. Clarity or degree of flawlessness goes hand in hand with color. The cleaner the stone, the more valuable it is (note that emeralds are an exception to this rule). Cut and carat weight are still important attributes, but seems to play somewhat of a secondary role. Along with the 4Cs, treatments assume a strategic and vital characteristic in today's gem market. It is estimated that 95% of all of the gems available today are treated in someway or another. Untreated gemstones are therefore rarer, more valuable and much sought after.
A Jyotish quality gemstone is free from any treatment, has high clarity and purity, pleasing color, and it is very well cut. Carat weight plays the least important Jyotish factor, based on our opinion & judgment.
Look for a clean, well cut, sweet & Sattvic gem that is sparkling and lustrous. Sattva is the harmonious and balanced Vedic attribute, one of the three life forces of natures as per the Vedic tradition.
